My name is Renee Lindsay and I have worked as a human resources consultant since 2002. Prior to consulting, I worked for media and internet companies for over four years in the HR field. In 2007, I founded Four Legs and Fur Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity that seeks to provide financial assistance to pet owners to offset medical expenses related to emergency and/or life-saving medical care. The inspiration for the charity came from my own experience with my calico cat, Shitty Kitty, who had been losing weight and not eating. The vet estimated that it would cost several thousand dollars, and many medical tests, to determine what the cause was. After having just lost my job as the HR Manager for a bankrupt internet company, a bill of $2,500 was devastating. The vet suggested euthanasia as an alternative and this was the moment when I realized that (1) I wasn’t going to kill my cat even if it meant selling everything I owned and (2) that other families must be faced with this horrible decision and what if they didn’t have access to money to pay for medical care? Luckily, all Shitty Kitty had was a horrible cavity, and after her tooth was removed she was a happy and healthy kitty again. Although she has since passed, her memory and spirit lives on in the Foundation. If you check out the Four Legs web site, you’ll see a calico – that’s her!
After years of working in “Corporate America,” I decided that it was time for a change. Animals have been an important part of my life since I was a little girl. In fact, I gave up eating meat back in 2005 and this change definitely made me focus more on what is important to me and what direction I wanted to take my life in. That’s where the idea for dog walking and pet sitting came from – what better way to earn a living than doing what I love? Taking care of animals is the greatest reward. Every day is different and filled with laughter and love.
